Call for Papers – Asian Development Perspectives
Special Issue Series on Cross-Cutting Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
#5 GENDER EQUALITY
Asian Development Perspectives (ADP) (formerly: Journal of Poverty Alleviation and International Development) is a peer-reviewed development studies journal based at Yonsei University in South Korea. Since late 2010, the journal has been committed to publishing original, multidisciplinary research related to poverty and/or development with the funding support of the Korean National Research Foundation.
We are celebrating our relaunch under our new name with a special issue series on cross-cutting issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To encourage high quality submissions, we have secured funding for a USD $1000 honorarium for published contributions in our special issue series.
We are now inviting submissions for our first special issue on Goal #5—Gender Equality. We welcome contributions from researchers globally, working on topics related to gender equality in any region or country.
SPECIAL ISSUE THEME Gender equality is a cross-cutting issue that will determine the success of the new SDG development agenda in both direct and indirect ways. There has been considerable progress toward gender equality under the previous Millennium Development Goals. However, women and girls continue to face discrimination in education and work opportunities, access to healthcare, exclusion from political and economic power, and experience disproportionate levels of physical and sexual violence. The United Nations has launched a number of global projects including the widely publicized #HeForShe campaign, and the Spotlight Initiative in partnership with the European Union that aims to remove all forms of discrimination and violence against women. However some aspects have not received the same level of attention, with the UN SDG process being criticized for failing to incorporate alternative forms of gender identity. Continuing to reduce gender inequality is vital to creating the peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world envisioned by the SDGs.
In this special issue, we aim to publish research examining the state of gender inequality, and potential challenges and solutions. Topics may include but are not limited to: access to education, health care, decent work, political representation, climate change, sexual reproductive rights, eliminating violence against women, girls and sexual minorities, empowerment through technology, discrimination toward non-traditional genders, leadership potential, business projects, networks and governance, or other areas that cut across various aspects of the SDGs that relate to gender equality,
To facilitate timely publication in this special issue, we ask that all manuscripts be received by Friday, March 9th, 2018 and that manuscripts adhere to the journal’s style guidelines found on our website. Manuscripts may also be submitted through our website’s online submission system.
Please note that we will be continuing to accept rolling submissions for our regular issues on all topics related to poverty and development studies.
