Information about the topic:
Project 1: Digital Payment Device for Micro-Merchants
Background
Micro- and small brick-and-mortar vendors—think ramen stalls, food trolleys or flea-market push-carts—often juggle cash, local cards and QR-scanning to collect payments. Moreover, when tourists arrive, these merchants frequently lack a simple way to accept foreign credit/debit cards, international e-wallets or cross-border fintech apps, leading to delays, extra fees, and frustrated customers.
Objective
Clarify the current in-store payment market for micro-merchants and uncover the design opportunities. Specifically:
-Identify the range of payment devices that have been used by these small merchants today, which payment methods (contactless cards, magnetic stripe cards, QR-codes, digital wallets) are supported—and where the gaps lie
-Understand pain points in the customer payment journey, especially for international travellers
-Define the feature set required for a terminal that is usable and affordable to the small merchants
Expected Output
1.Industry Landscape Report
A report with descriptions of the current payment devices adopted by target merchants, with pictures, pros and cons. Taking into consideration the store's setting and the accessibility and affordability to these merchants.
2.Consumer's Journey
A journey map to illustrate a local shopper and a foreign visitor in making payments at target stores, with key friction points highlighted.
3.Prototype Design
A prototype of a unified payment terminal—covering hardware, connectivity, multilingual UI and support for different payment methods. Design specifications are expected too.

Project 2: Smart Travel Agent
Background
Overseas travel planning is thrilling yet fraught with friction—users hop between dozens of websites, apps, and influencer reviews without ever feeling confident in their choices. Coordinating a family trip or friends group trip only amplifies the headache, as every member’s preferences must be balanced and reconciled.
Objective
Tap into the power of generative AI to craft an AI-powered agent prototype to serve a family or group trip that includes but not limited to:
-Simplifies searching and booking across all travel components in one place
-Cater to group preferences (budget, pace, interests)
-Generates and refines complete itineraries
-Simplifies booking across all travel components in one place
Expected Output
1.Persona & Journey Maps, based on 5–7 user interviews (including families), highlight the frictions and unmet needs
2.Prototype Design: High-fidelity mockups of key user flows, such as information search, chat interface, itinerary generator and editor, booking user flow.
