INTORDUCTION

The department of packaging & logistics(Students admitted before 2021: Department of Packaging / Students admitted 2021~: Department of Packaging & Logistics)was founded in 2002 at Yonsei University, Wonju. Our packaging program is the first and only four year education program in Korea. The department offers the degrees of Bachelor of Science and also Master of Science with Packaging major. About 140 undergraduate and 8 graduate students are currently enrolled. The Department of Packaging has demonstrated leadership in the field of packaging, offering an innovative educational and research program.

Major Overview

Packaging is essential in today's society. Packaging an applied multi-sciences necessary for our modern productions, that puts together science, engineering, technology, design, marketing, and consumer psychology. The packaging major consists of several areas, such as packaging materials, food and pharmaceutical packaging, shock and vibration related to physical distribution of products, packaging machines, and so on.

From the moment of manufacture to the final use by a consumer, packaging makes a product convenient to transport, protects the product from physical, chemical and biological hazards, and conveys instructions that are easy to understand. It is a goal of packaging to use the most effective and economic materials to accomplish these functions. Packaging materials and systems are constantly changing to meet today’s needs. Packaging professionals use modern technology and innovative approaches to develop or modify packaging. The department of packaging supports packaging industries by educating students, by conducting problem solving research and develop new technology, and by providing other services to the industry.

The primary mission of the department is to educate students to analyze social, scientific, environmental, and business problems and to synthesize solutions to those problems that contribute to the betterment of the world, its environment, and its people. Another important goal of the department is to seek advanced packaging materials and systems through research and development. Furthermore, the department is trying to provide continuing service to the community at large, using the results of the research and educational effort conducted at the school.

Oversea Academic Program Relations

Yonsei University currently offers more than 100 Study Abroad Programs in 30 countries on six continents. Students visit universities, professional organizations and research facilities. Packaging major students may visit the United States, Japan, China and Other Asian countries where packaging programs are available. Department of Packaging at Yonsei University signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote international cooperation in education and research for packaging fields with School of Packaging at Michigan State University (USA), and Zhu-Zhu Institute Technology University in China. Students develop an understanding of the technologies of global packagings, a portfolio of professional contacts and reference materials, professional and interpersonal communication skills, and an appreciation of the history and culture of the countries visited.

Campus Environment

The Wonju campus is one of the most scenic campuses in Korea. It is nestled beside a lack at the base of Little White Cloud Mountain about ten kilometers south of Wonju city. Many of the classrooms and laboratories have a view of the lack and Chi-ak Mountain. members of faculty have overseas teaching and experimenting experience that helps to create a better teaching environment.
